We enjoyed a nice meeting at the Lutheran Community Church on Tropicana this week with 26 members in attendance and 8 members reading.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
There will NOT be a regular farmer's market in Henderson this Thursday due to a car show being held in the same location. The following week (October 11th) there will be a booth for the Henderson Writers' Group where you are welcome to sell books, come and visit, or both. Contact Amanda if you have questions.
The monthly Westside Wednesday meeting has CHANGED LOCATION. From now on it will meet at the Claim Jumpers on Fort Apache and Charleston.
BRAGS:
Congratulations to Charles Fuller on the publication of an article in "The Firing Line" magazine titled "Trouble Shooting."
Congratulations to our president Jo Wilkins on making excellent progress recovering from her knee replacement surgery.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT (entirely subjective based on my whim):
"C'est la vie, c'est la guerre, c'est la pomme de terre" -Judy
(Direct translation: that's life, that's war, that's a potato.)
UPCOMING MEETINGS:
Our next meeting is the weekly Monday meeting, October 8th at the Community Lutheran Church. For more information on our meetings please see the calendar.
The article for this week's newsletter is a brief President's Message from Jo Wilkins:
In
this issue of the Henderson Writer's Group’s newsletter, it is my
pleasure as President to share my views about the group. From our
humble beginning 12 years ago, we have grown into an eclectic family
of genre non-specific writers and authors. It is gratifying to see
the discussions and opinions on all aspects of writing expressed each
week in our critiquing sessions. Over the years I have watched the
growth of our members, some from true novices, into published
authors. I have also watched talented writers refine their work into
publishable manuscripts. Although we all come from different
backgrounds we accept each other as collogues and lend a hand toward
everyone’s advancement in the field. I also want to commend our
members for their ability to critique the writing and not the writer.
Henderson Writers' Group (HWG) is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide a networking and critiquing forum for writers of all skill levels with resources devoted to education and craft development. We do this through hosting weekly meetings and the Las Vegas Writers Conference held in April each year.

The Henderson Writers Group is serious about educating writers. We believe that our youth, specifically students, are the place to start. To further these efforts we have established this writing contest to award scholarships to the best of these budding authors.
