July 29th Meeting Report

About thirty of us gathered at the Coffee Shop this Monday to hear and critique six readers.  Next week's meeting is in Henderson as well (because of the 5th Monday in July).

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

If you're interested in attending the Vegas Valley Book Fair, get in touch with Gregory. The group has two tables reserved and you can sign up to be at the group booth as an author or volunteer.

We are considering doing a fundraiser/social event this Fall. Amanda (our officer over fundraising) is soliciting opinions about the potential event. We'd like to know if you're interested.

Are you coming to the Las Vegas Writer's Conference next Spring? The Sam's Town Hotel gives special rates to conference attendees: Thursday April 24th : $27, Friday and Saturday April 25th and 26th: $65. To make reservations you will need to group name (Henderson Writers) and the group code: HEND14B. March 25th 2014 is the last date to make reservations at the discounted rate.

Congratulations to Morgan St. James on several upcoming radio shows to discuss her new book La Bella Mafia. She'll be on Vegas Unwrapped on August 1st (KLAV 1230 AM)  at 9:00 p.m. and on Aspects of Writing (also KLAV 1230 AM) on August 13th at 2:00 p.m.

WRITING TIP from Jo Wilkins:

After your first draft, when you start the editing process, don’t be afraid of changing your text to see how it reads. Remember though; keep your original draft intact as a reference. You can, if you’re not careful, edit your story into something drab and unexciting. Always keep your original draft tucked away until you are satisfied with the new direction and flavor of your manuscript
